Meeting at Varina Temple
1600 Burning Tree Rd
Wor. Damon L. Riddell - Worshipful Master 2019
Brethren, we had a better crowd at our April Stated than we did in March which is encouraging because we had more brothers present in March than we did in February. It’s great seeing more seats filled at our Stated Meetings. It was also a pleasure having our current DDGM, Rt Wor Tom Wadkins present. In addition to that, I realized that we had three PDDGMs present; Rt Wor Tom Fifer, Rt Wor Donald Traser, and Rt Wor Bill Biddix. Our program was provided by our own secretary, Rt Wor Don Traser. He had a most enjoyable (and comical) talk about the duties of the stationed officers of the Lodge as well as other Masonic trivia. His presentation was well organized as well as funny. I was truly worried I would not be able to stay focused while closing the Lodge. If you missed it then, well, you missed it. Hopefully we’ll see you at future Stated meetings. As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, make it a personal goal to attend at least two Stated meetings or events in 2019. I know you’ll be glad you did.
In May we will have a very special Stated meeting focusing on our Armed Forces with a special presentation to those who served from November 1955 to May 1975. If you served during that time let me know and we’ll include you in the program. In addition, if you served in our military at any time please come and be recognized. The May stated will be Thursday May 9. If you can, please make it. I’m looking forward to it being a special night for all.
As we look ahead, on Saturday May 11 we will have a Pancake Breakfast, see details below. On Sunday June 2 there will be a memorial service at the Masonic Home of Virginia starting at 3:00pm to remember all brothers who were called up by the Supreme Architect of the Universe in 2018. If you can make it, please come and remember our brothers we lost last year. In the Summer we will have another casual event that you can attend. Currently, plans are in the works but keep an ear to the ground to learn more.
As Northside Lodge continues to rebuild and become a strong Lodge again, we need to look not at just next month or the next few months, we need to look at next year and the next several years. If your cable tow allows, I implore you to become active to help with the rebuilding. There are many opportunities in our Lodge. You can come to class and learn the ritual better to better understand just what this great fraternity is all about. You can take a position in the Lodge to keep our line strong. You can help by contacting me with ideas you may have that might be good for our, your, Lodge. You can just to any of our events and enjoy that friendly Masonic fellowship again. One immediate need we have is maintaining contact with our widows. Masons are obligated to come to the aid of all widows and orphans. We need someone to call and/or visit, and send birthday and Christmas cards to our widows. If this sounds like something you can do and would enjoy doing for your Lodge please call me.
One more note, I have given our web site a shot in the arm. It is up to date with current information, newsletters, and a calendar of events. Please visit it when you get a chance. www.northsidelodge.com
In closing, I am excited of the progress we are making. I’m enjoying seeing faces in Lodge that I haven’t seen for a while and, brothers, it’s really is exciting. Won’t you come and be part of the success? Give it some thought.
