Meeting at Varina Temple
1600 Burning Tree Rd
Wor. Damon L. Riddell - Worshipful Master 2019
Brethren, our June Stated was well attended. Wor Clyde Hott brought a good message about The Holy Saints John with some good detail. Even If you’ve heard presentations about the topic before, Wor Clyde’s was well worth the time.
I hope, as we enjoy the beautiful summer weather, life if being good to you. I’m at the halfway point of my freshman year as Worshipful Master and I’m happy to say I’m really enjoying myself. I haven’t been batting 1000 with my plans but my batting average has been pretty good so far. I’ve been trying to contact all members the month of their Masonic Anniversary and I’m happy to say I’ve reached all but a few. I hope you have made use of the list of members I gave out in March. My intent was to have each of you contact at least one member a month just to have a friendly conversation with a brother. I hope you have done so and helped me, and your Lodge, improve communications.
I’ve also tried to improve the offerings of the Lodge. In April we had a Bring-A-Friend pancake breakfast which was well attended although we had no one attend that could have been considered a possible candidate for Masonry. We’ll have another one before the year is out.
On July 20 at 2:00pm we’ll join Varina Lodge to have an Ice Cream Social at the Masonic Home. I hope you can attend. In August we’ll be having our monthly stated on the second Saturday instead of the second Thursday. We’ll start the meal at 5:30pm and the meeting at 6:30pm. I hope to keep the meeting brief so we can close Lodge at 7:30pm. That means the sun will still be up so those who cannot attend meetings because of driving in the dark will have an opportunity to once again attend a Lodge meeting. Also, Northside Lodge will pay for the meal that night. I’ve also tried to bring speakers that have an interesting message to bring. Bro Doug Riddell brought a message about the history of trains in Richmond in February. We had a special meeting to recognize our military veterans in May. In July Wor Michael Joyner will bring a message about The William Morgan Affair. In November we’ll have a Past Masters Night. I hope to see you there.
One thing that has been a pleasant surprise this year has been the joy of talking on the phone to and meeting face to face many Northside brothers. I would say that has been the highlight of my year. I have ‘truly’ enjoyed sitting with and talking to many of you. I wish I had more time to make more visits but the visits and phone calls I have made have been wonderful. I hope you enjoyed them as well. For those that have not contacted any members, I encourage you to do so. ‘You’ will enjoy it as much as they will.
As I said, it’s been a great year so far and I hope it continues. Please be part of the growth and rebirth of your Lodge. I hope to see you soon.
