Meeting at Varina Temple
1600 Burning Tree Rd
Wor. Damon L. Riddell - Worshipful Master 2019
Brethren, first off I need to say a big ‘Thank you’ to Wor Barry Snedker for presiding in the East for me in February. As much as I have planned to not travel the weeks of our stated meetings for 2019, I was unable to avoid having to be out of town in February. I hope that is the last time this year.
Attendance was sparse at the February Stated. I was sorry to hear that because our Chaplain, Bro Doug Riddell, I understand did a very good job with his presentation about how trains played a role in the history of Richmond. Hopefully we can have him again before the year ends. (I want to hear him too). For our March Stated we will have Past Grand Master, Mt Wor Fred Martin, PGM in 2003. He will talk about the challenges and rewards while serving a year as Grand Master of Masons in Virginia. I hope you can make it.
I want to give you a heads up of what’s on the horizon for Northside Lodge. At the March Stated I will have an envelope for each Northside Lodge member. In the envelope will be a letter from me and a roster of Northside Lodge members with contact information. One goal I have for the Lodge for 2019 is improved communication so the first thing is to make sure all brothers have the necessary information at hand. What I will ask is that once per month pick up the roster and select a brother. It may be a brother you know or don’t know. Just call or visit him and check on his wellbeing. Ask questions like ‘How is life going? Are you getting the newsletter? Do you have any concerns or problems the Lodge should know about? Is there anything you need from the Lodge?’ That will be the type of conversation I hope for you to have. If you can make at least one contact per month that will be a start. Maybe a brother that feels forgotten will consider becoming more involved with Lodge activities which will make the Lodge a stronger better Lodge. I hope you’ll support me and your Lodge in this effort. I hope to see Northside Lodge as a much stronger Lodge in just a few years.
In addition, I will bring up two topics for discussion. First, I want to bring up the idea of Northside sending a Masonic floral arrangement to the funeral home of a brother who has passed away. We used to do this but now send a donation to the Masonic Home. I want to see if the Lodge would be interest in going back to sending flowers. The second item for discussion will be only for discussion, there will be no decision at this time. In changing our meeting location to Varina temple we have seen a drop in attendance and participation at our stated meetings. My thought is that this ‘might’ have to do with the location. I want get a discussion started to see what is the feeling of the Lodge possibly changing meeting location. Again, there will be no voting or decision made on this issue at this time, I just want to get brothers to share their thoughts on this. We will probably talk more about this at future meetings as well but I just want to start the conversation.
In closing, I am really trying to keep Northside Lodge as a Lodge. I know that we have an uphill battle if we want to continue for years and years but I feel we can do it. However, it will take work an effort from ‘all’ brothers in the Lodge. We have been too long with having too few brothers doing the majority of the work and this is not a formula for success if we want our grandsons’ grandsons to be members or Northside Lodge. I truly hope you will look at your time and abilities and if you can start getting active or more active in ‘your’ Lodge we would all enjoy the benefits.
