Meeting at Varina Temple
1600 Burning Tree Rd
Wor. Damon L. Riddell - Worshipful Master 2019
Brethren, I hope you were able to attend our July Stated. Our speaker was Wor Michael Joyner who spoke about the William Morgan affair. Wor Joyner always does a good job of preparing and delivering his message and he didn’t disappoint this time. The William Morgan affair was a significant event in the history of freemasonry and it was interesting to hear how it all played out. Attendance was good for a summer month. We didn’t continue with increasing the numbers from the previous month but still a good group was present.
As I type this newsletter I am preparing to spend a week’s vacation with my family in sunny Florida. I’m looking forward to it as we always have a good time when we vacation together. While I am gone I’ll be relying on my committee to fill in in case anything comes up.
We are a little over half way through the year and I can say ‘so far, so good’. Attendance is up for our stated meetings and we have had a couple of events that are non-meeting events and were well attended. Last week, July 20, we had a good group meet at the Masonic Home and serve ice cream and deserts to many residents for an Ice Cream Social. It was fun and many residents told me how much they enjoyed and appreciated it. Last night I attended the official visit from the Grand Master, Mt Wor William Hershey, to Masonic Districts 15A and B. A most enjoyable evening. I was hoping to see more brothers from Northside there but I appreciate who came.
In looking to the home stretch for the year I’m hoping that moving our August Stated to the second Saturday and starting the meal at 5:30pm with the meeting starting at 6:30pm will bring our some brothers who cannot make it on Thursday nights. If you can make it, I look forward to seeing you there. Remember, the meal will be hot dogs and hamburgers and will be at no cost to all. In September I’m planning on having Wor Charles Berger, a PM of Glen Allen Lodge and tattoo artist. October we will celebrate Founders Day and in November we will have Past Masters night.
In closing, I am really trying to keep Northside Lodge as a Lodge. I know that we have an uphill battle if we want to continue for years and years but I feel we can do it. However, it will take work an effort from ‘all’ brothers in the Lodge. We have been too long with having too few brothers doing the majority of the work and this is not a formula for success if we want our grandsons’ grandsons to be members or Northside Lodge. I truly hope you will look at your time and abilities and if you can start getting active or more active in ‘your’ Lodge we would all enjoy the benefits.
